Hi ich bin Hannah!

Ich bin am glücklichsten, wenn ich irgendwo in den Bergen auf einem Wanderweg unterwegs bin – am liebsten zu Fuß mit einem Rucksack auf dem Rücken und mit diesem Gefühl von absoluter Freiheit. Im Januar 2024 hat es mich nach Kanada verschlagen, wo ich das Glück habe, einige der schönsten Nationalparks direkt vor der Haustür zu haben. Aber ganz ehrlich? Schon vorher führte mich jeder Urlaub in die Berge, weil es einfach der Ort ist, an dem ich komplett abschalten kann.

Diesen Blog habe ich gestartet, um meine Leidenschaft für Outdoor-Abenteuer mit dir zu teilen. Ich möchte dir zeigen, dass Wandern nicht schwer oder langweilig sein muss, dir Tipps zu Trails und den Umgang mit der Natur geben (ja, auch zum Thema „Wie überlebe ich im Bärengebiet?“) und dir Lust machen, die Schönheit unserer Welt abseits von Touri-Spots und Highways zu entdecken.

Mein Herz schlägt für Outdoor-Abenteuer – und wenn deins auch nur ein kleines bisschen schneller schlägt, wenn du ans Draußensein denkst, dann bist du hier genau richtig.

Yoho National Park in April is exactly what the name says: sheer awe. 🤯

Right at the edge of British Columbia, on the border of Alberta you’ll find this park sitting on the continental divide. The name ‘Yoho’ comes from the Cree word for awe, which is exactly what you feel no matter where you look. ☺️

I’ve been here quite a few times already, and I often get the question: doesn’t it get boring if youve been here so many times already? and my honest answer is: Absolutely not! 😍

A few facts about this place👇🤓
💡 Yoho sits on the continental divide, where water flows west to the Pacific ocean and east toward the Atlantic ocean

💡the rocks of the mountains are over 500 million years old

💡it’s home to the Burgess Shale, where scientists discovered bizarre early creatures like Anomalocaris (a giant predator with grasping claws) and Hallucigenia (a spiky, almost alien looking animal) - google them 😅

💡 in summer, alpine meadows around Yoho Valley and the Iceline trail explode with wildflowers

💡 some of the park’s top spots (like high elevation roads and trails) are closed from October to June due to heavy snowfall and avalanche risk

💡the park is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks world heritage site (UNESCO)

Yoho quietly outdoes any kind of expectations, every single time I’m here. 🩵

No, you can’t bring your own paddleboard here 🛶🛑

@parks.canada has introduced stricter watercraft regulations across Alberta & BC, but what does that mean, what actually changed and why? 🧐

👉 Until now: visitors could bring their own watercraft if they followed the ‘clean, drain, dry’ protocol
(removing water, mud, and plants to prevent contamination between lakes).

☝️now:
🛶 lakes like Moraine & Bow Lake are classified as Water Preservation Zones, which means: no private kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, or inflatables AT ALL. Only on-site rental canoes are allowed.

🌊 lakes like Lake Louise, Hector Lake & a couple more are classified as Water Recreation zones. They still allow paddling, but under strict conditions. A self certification permit is required and following the ‘clean, drain, dry’ protocol is mandatory.

🚤 Lake Minnewanka remains the only lake where motorized boats are permitted (with inspection & tighter regulation). So far, it’s the only lake classified as Special Tactics Zone.

why all this? 🤓
to prevent aquatic invasive species, after some were detected in 2025. Zebra or quagga mussels, invasive plants, or diseases like the whirling disease can spread through microscopic traces of water on gear, if not properly cleaned. Once introduced, they are nearly impossible to remove, and especially the whirling disease can severely impact fish populations, particularly trout, whitefish and salmon. In some cases, it can kill up to 90 per cent of young fish. 🐟🩵

So YES, you can still paddle on those lakes, but please do your homework before you go & know the rules. 🫶🏼

because with more and more people visiting these places, protection like this becomes essential. And on a personal note: no one (except the wind) can destroy the incredible sunrise reflections at Moraine Lake anymore, hehe. ☺️

If you could name them, what would you choose? 👀🏔️

For some people, these are just rocks on a skyline, but for me, they hold stories, history, mystery, and awe. 💛

Did you know the “Three Sisters” exist in a few places around the world? 😊 I’ve been lucky enough to see versions of them in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, and each one is unique in its own way. But none of them stole my heart like this iconic landmark in the Canadian Rockies. 😍

Behind the view is a story that stretches far beyond what we see today. ✨ 👇
In the traditional language of the Stoney Nakoda, the name reflects their long standing cultural presence in the valley and is a reminder that these mountains have held meaning & stories loooong before English names existed.

Every mountain and every landscape has a story, and sometimes we just have to listen with our eyes and ears. 😊

What’s Gipfelschmaus in your language? ☺️

It’s April 12 and once again, it’s snowing here in Calgary. 🫠 the only thing I wanna do though, is sit on a peak, without wearing 347 layers and just chill with a snack in my hand.

What Gipfelschmaus actually means:
✨ Gipfel = summit / peak
✨ Schmaus = feast / delicious meal / treat

If you put them together and you’ve got Gipfelschmaus, a mountaintop feast! 😍

🤓 there’s a reason why food tastes better on a summit: after a hike, your body’s hungry, your brain’s full of dopamine, and even the air is a bit different. Lower oxygen levels and cool mountain air can subtly change your perception of taste and smell, making food seem more intense and satisfying. 🤤

Plus, psychologists call this ‘context-dependent enjoyment’, which basically means: food just feels more rewarding after a little sweat and when you’re soaking in those summit views. ☺️

Three sisters & a million facets. 🤍

The Three Sisters in Canmore are one of the most iconic and photographed landmarks in the Bow Valley. 🏔️ and every time I’m in Canmore, they look different, but always stunning and so majestic (even when they’re covered in clouds). 💛

They were originally named the ‘Three Nuns’ in 1883 after a snowstorm made them look like nuns in white veils, and in 1886 they were renamed the ‘Three Sisters’ by geologist George Dawson.

Over time, they became known as Faith, Charity, and Hope. These three sisters watching over the Bow Valley. While these names aren’t official on maps, they’re widely used in tourism and storytelling. ☺️

Don’t be a shrimp 🦐

…because our bodies were made to move, not to curl up like little desk shrimp for most of the day.

Long hours of sitting are actually linked to back pain, tight hips, and poor posture. If you have a desk job, you probably know what I’m talking about. 😵‍💫

If you can’t switch to sitting on rocks, this is what you can do when you’re tied to a desk:

1) get up every 30-60 min (even if it’s just to refill your water or stare out the window for a sec). A timer can help to build a habit in the beginning. ⏱️

2) un-shrimp yourself: shoulders back, chest open, feet flats your spine will thank you. Or just make a few stretches. 🦐 🛑

3) use your water breaks to stand up. This is two wins in one, because: hydration AND movement 😎💧

Outside, sitting on a random rock = better posture, fresh air, and a free mental reset. 🥰

Spring what? 😅

It just takes a little longer for spring to arrive in the mountains. Until then, we’ll keep building snowmen, making snow angels, and enjoying all the fun winter things, just with a little more daylight ☺️☀️🏔️

Pro tip: always carry a little extra chocolate, so you can use it as eyes and nose for a snowman. But remember to eat the chocolate and take the wrappers before you leave 🫶🏼 #leavenotrace

What else does A in April stand for? ☺️

April in the Rockies is wild, because you can still frolick through winter wonderland, but you can also admire the deep blue of the streams an rivers in the mountains again. If we’re lucky we may be able to spot the first few flowers towards the end of the month. Plus, it’s shoulder season, which means: it’s nice and quiet out here, which gives nature & wildlife some space to wake up from hibernation 🥰

March ‘26 💛

What a wonderful month, which started with a cozy girls trip to Canmore with @kelly_menster, an empowering International Women’s Day hike with @outdoorsycrew (and lots of amazing women ✨), then, march took me on a little adventure to Ontario: first time in Toronto with Hanno (thanks for the wind and rain slap in our faces 🥲) my first NBA game (!!), and to the incredible Niagara Falls.

And to round up the month, Alberta gave us a couple more beautiful snow dumps to end the month. ❄️

While all this was wonderful and my heart is full, my head felt a bit chaotic, so I’m gonna try to do a daily mediation in April. ☺️

I missed world marmot day (2nd of February), but I can’t waaaiit for those tiny alpine engineers to come out of their burrows in a couple of weeks. ☺️

Marmots scared the hell out of me a couple of times already, because you can only spot them when they move, because they are so well hidden in their territory full of alpine rocks. 😅
But they are so chill, funny and majestic at the same time, and I love knowing they are out there. 🥰

Do you love marmots as much as I do? ☺️

P.S.: there is another marmot species in BC, which is the Vancouver Island marmot, and it‘s endemic to the island. 😊

Who needs a fridge like this? 🙋🏼‍♀️

It’s a baaad habit I’m working on, but when I eat inside, I’m usually doing 3 things at once. 😵‍💫

That’s why I love to eat outside, because I focus on my meal only (yea ok, I also stare at the views 😅). But in the end, every meal outside feels way more flavorful, satisfying and it’s way easier to notice when my body says it’s enough.

Soo, now I just need to learn how to do this inside too 👀

Maybe we’re not hungry for food 👀

Am I the only one who craves snacks after like 2 hours at a desk? 😅 Because I notice this every single time I’m back on my laptop after a hiking day, and I know it’s not real hunger.

I think my brain just gets bored and starts looking for a reward. And the easiest reward many of us have been trained to go for since we were kids: Foood (the classic: ‘if you do this, we’ll get ice cream.’🍦

Kinda questionable system if this is the only reward we know, but the mountains have taught me a different way of rewarding myself.

As someone who used to struggle with unhealthy eating habits (still do sometimes), I actually noticed hiking helped me understand that food isn’t entertainment, it’s fuel (which doesn’t mean food can’t be fun).

And somehow EVERYTHING tastes better outside??
Maybe even things I wouldn’t even touch (goats cheese 🤢 ) would suddenly taste amazing but I wouldn’t dare to try 😂

🤓 I went down a little rabbit hole on this (because of course I did), and there’s actually some science behind it: when we’re bored or mentally tired, our brain looks for quick dopamine. high calorie foods (or just grabbing your phone) are the easiest way to get it. And when you’re sitting at a screen all day, you’re also way more mentally distracted, which makes it harder to be in touch with our body and notice if we’re actually hungry or just eating out of habit.*

I know every body is different, but for me, being active, moving my body and being outside makes it so much easier to actually feel what I need (physically & mentally). 💛

For me, that’s just another reason for me to spend more time outdoors. 🥰

A little bit of Niagara magic from our trip to Ontario two weeks ago ☺️

This was my second time at Niagara Falls. The first time I was 16, and was there right in the middle of a heat wave.🥵 back then, we did the boat ride and the journey behind the falls, and I still remember how refreshing it felt getting completely soaked in 44°C. 😅

Seeing the falls in winter now was such a contrast. Way fewer people, and those massive ice formations in front of the falls were mindblowing. The closer we got, the icier everything became. Handrails, trees, plants: everything was covered in this beautiful frozen layer. 😍 I would have loved to see the falls with blue skies, but the moody day had its own vibe too.

I was wondering where the name comes from, and apparently the name Niagara is believed to come from an Indigenous word, often linked to meanings like thundering water or the strait, which feels pretty fitting when you’re standing right in front of it. ☺️

Already so excited for the warmer months ☀️

Scrolling through these and remembering how much I struggled with the light, the firesmoke in the air, and finding the right camera settings makes me so excited to get back out there in summer. ☺️

So far, I really love this learning journey and to experience different conditions and different challenges with my camera. I’m so excited for all the wonderful moments my camera and I are going to capture this year. 🥰

and hopefully these 3 intentions will help me:
1) I wanna stay calm, even when the light is changing fast and the time is working against me (like at sunrise / sunset)
2) I wanna ask the “dumb” questions and learn from people who know more than me 🤓
3) I wanna focus less on getting the perfect shot, and more on actually enjoying the moment and telling the story behind a photo 💛

Because I feel like that’s where the best photos happen anyway. 🙌🏼

Today is world bear day 🐻
Every year on March 23, world bear day aims to honor all eight bear species and highlight their role in ecosystems.
But tbh, when I first came to Canada, I was so scaaared of bears because of all the fairytales & stories I’d heard about attacks. With every rustle in the bushes I thought: okaaay, this is it 😵‍💫

But I learned a few important things:
🐻 they’re not waiting in the bushes to chase me
🐻 they deserve respect, not fear
🐻 and: be prepared, do your research, and know how to behave in bear country ⚠️

Here are 3 resonst why we should celebrate bears more 🥳👇
1. they are keystone species in many ecosystems, because they have a huge impact on their environment. For example: they help spread seeds through their movement and digestion, which supports forest regeneration and plant diversity

2. they are highly adaptable omnivores, with diets that change seasonally depending on what’s available. this flexibility helps them play a stabilizing role in the food web, influencing both plant and animal populations

3. when it comes to human interactions, bears are generally NOT aggressive by nature. Most encounters happen because of surprise, proximity, or access to human food, not because bears are seeking conflict

The more you understand them, the less fear takes over, and the more you can enjoy the trails 😍🥾
and how you can celebrate bears too: understand their role, respect their space, practice bear safety, secure food & waste, support conservation efforts and recognize that a healthy wilderness includes them 🐻🌲

AI doesn’t make it easy 👀

Unlike my little piece of art here, a lot of AI stuff starts to look pretty real recently and I find it a little scary. It makes me wanna question everything I see, and one thing I’ve been thinking about recently:
The more we see something (even if it’s fake) the more our brain accepts it as ‘normal’ or default standard.

It started with filters, and now we’re moving into personalities and realities that don’t even exist in real life. And for me, that’s the weird part, because we start measuring real life against something that was never real in the first place?!

Sooo let’s not do this and:
⏸️ pause for a second before believing everything you see online (even if it looks real)
🕵️ look for the tiny details (weird movements, too perfect lighting, weird textures)
💛 and most importantly: decide for yourself what real should feel like

I’d rather keep my standards grounded in real experiences, with all the edges and “flaws”, and just use AI to make my unrealistic pika dream come true 😅🥰

This is what the next few weeks are gonna look like in Alberta. 😅🌸❄️

I don’t mind fresh snow or the cold, but I really don’t love muddy trails and that awkward in-between season… when the snow is gone but nothing’s blooming yet.

Today is the first day of spring 🌸 which means…

…it’s the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, when day and night are perfectly equal. 🙌🏼

From today on, the days slowly start to win more daylight, which means: brighter mornings, longer afternoons, and more time outside to soak it all in. 🥾

Not sure about you, but even though it’s still winter here, longer days have me excited for:
breakfasts outside on the trails, watching sunsets on a mountain, not needing a big jacket, seeing wildflowers everywhere, watching chipmunks (and pikas 😍) and listening to the sound of birds.

Do you remember? ✨

Sometimes I wonder if we slowly stopped being where our feet are. 👣
I catch myself reaching for my phone without even thinking. To fill a quiet moment, to escape boredom, to avoid feelings I don’t wanna feel or to simply feel connected. And it hurts me so much to see this happening to the people around me too. 🥺

As a millennial, I remember a time when being present wasn’t something you had to try so hard to be. and I don’t think it’s gone, we just need to let it in again. 🫶🏼

And this is not a “everything was better without technology” post. There are so many aspects about digitalization that made our life’s so much easier and convenient.

But we neither learned to set boundaries, nor to realize when it’s enough. But spending time in the mountains in Canada is always the best reminder, to chase more offline time.

So maybe we just need a little more awareness of when to put it down, just long enough to notice what’s right in front of us. 💛

[hosted] This little getaway with @basecampresorts at @lamphousehotel, right here in one of the most beautiful areas in the world, gave me so much gratitude and energy and I can’t wait for the next time. 🏔️

It’s still mindblowing to me that all this is in my backyard. This massive playground for my body, but also for my soul.

and I’m still trying to figure out how to give something back to a life that gives me this much. 💛

Shouldn’t the falls be amusement enough? 👀🎠

We went to Niagara Falls this weekendc, parked the car, started walking to the falls, and suddenly found ourselves in the middle of an amusement park?! 😂
Ridley’s, dungeons, Jurassic park stuff and everything you wouldn’t expect next to one of the most impressing waterfalls on earth.

Flashing lights, arcade noises, neon everywhere.
A part of me was very confused, while the other part remembered this weird place from 16 years ago, when I came here during a heat wave as a teenager with my family. 😅

And then you see the massive falls. And in my opinion, they were extra special with the ice building up and ice floating in front of them. unreal. 🤯😍

But it still doesn’t quite go into my head that someone once looked at one of the most mindblowing waterfalls on earth and thought:

“You know what this place needs? An amusement park.” 🤡

I used to hate winter, until I stood here. 🤯

If you asked me a couple of years ago what winter meant to me, I probably would have said: cold, dark, long, depressing. 🫠

moving to Canada showed me a completely different kind of winter. With every little winter adventure, I fell a bit more for the icy beauty. With every fresh snowfall, snow angel, icy shape and texture hooked me in a bit more. The shapes ice creates, how snow makes everything quieter, and how the air feels different when it’s reeeally cold made me realize there is a version of winter I want more of.

And then I stood here, in front of this massive frozen wall, completely speechless. 🥹
and a little fun fact: I actually went twice, because the day before was snowy and cloudy and I really wanted to see this masterpiece with sunshine ☀️😍.

Now a part of me actually gets excited if the forecast says -20 or lower, because it means nature is out there sculpting these wild ice formations again. ❄️

Last week, @basecampresorts [hosted] me for a little mountain escape and I took the chance to turn it into a girls trip. 💕

We stayed at @lamphousehotel, which is a great spot if you want to explore Canmore. Located right on the main street downtown, you can basically fall out of your room into the next cute café, stroll along the river, explore the shops and pubs (trivia nights included 😎), and still have nature & stunnnnning mountain views right on your doorstep. ✨

plus, the hot tub after coming back from a hike with a view of Ha Ling is just👌🏻👌🏻

My personal favourite tho: I could actually sleep with the window open because it’s not close to the train tracks or main traffic. The little things a downtown Calgary girly appreciates 😅

ok ok, I’m not always unhappy when im not in the mountains, there’s other things that make me happy too. 😅 Like, spending time with my sister (and my little nephew omg 🥹), talking to a friend, drinking a good coffee, adventuring with my partner… there’s sooo many things ga. And the excitement before a trip to the mountains is actually pretty sweet too. ☺️

Sometimes it feels like everything gets easier in the mountains, especially my mind, and I’ve been asking myself lately: would it feel the same if I lived there, or is the distance exactly what makes them so special? 👀

Do you have a place where you instantly feel a bit happier too? 🥰

Choose your doors wisely ✨ because som lead to screen meetings & others lead to mountain views. 👀

We walk through the same doors every single day. 🚪
but we also walk past so many others without even touching the handle.

And one door probably won’t be a dramatic change, but pressing down the handle on a different door, taking a peek, opening a new tab and taking baby steps forward will do. ☺️

I often underestimate how sneaky powerful small decisions and actions are, and it’s so stupid to hope that something’s gonna change if we keep choosing the same entrance over and over again. 😅

If I hadn’t taken a tiny peek into the freelancing door a few years ago, I’d probably still be stuck in a job that made me sick. Or if I hadn’t opened one random message, I would’ve never ended up with my favourite person @hasie90 🥰

Not every door leads to mountains, but some absolutely do. 🏔️

This day was proclaimed by the UN in 1973 to celebrate wild animals and plants and to raise awareness about protecting endangered species. Every year on March 3rd, this day is our reminder that wildlife isnt just a documentary moment in real life, but essential for healthy ecosystems, biodiversity, and for our life on this planet. 🌎🩵

A lot of species are struggling because of habitat loss, climate change, and us humans. 🫠
We have taken over huge parts of this world, so when we step into nature, we’re stepping into someone else’s home.

It’s like visiting a friend, and that means acting like a respectful guest. 😊

Basic things everyone can do:
🐾 Give them space. If an animal reacts to you, you’re too close. Stress burns energy they need to survive.
🐾 Never feed wildlife. It can make them sick and often leads to them being euthanized later 🥺
🐾 Pack out everything. Yes, EVERYTHING. Even banana peels, eggshells and apple cores.
🐾 Keep dogs on leash, because believe it or not, not every animal is their fan.
🐾 Stay on trail, because every step matters for habitat destruction:
🐾 Respect closures and protected area, because they exist for a reason.

We all make mistakes, sometimes people just don’t know better, and that’s okay. I keep learning too, and we can educate without shaming. 😊

But the least we can do is play our part and make sure wildlife stays wild. 🧡

Curate your feed to lift you up ✨

We all do it, often unconsciously, but we do it every single day, and sometimes it’s so draining: why doesn’t my life look like this? My home isn’t perfect, my body isn’t ‘there,’ I’m not eating right enough, everyone’s ahead… ugh. 😵‍💫

But there are a few ways that helped me stop this 👇
💛 curate your feed: This is honestly the easiest. Unfollow accounts that make you feel small, mute what drains you, and follow things that genuinely inspire or spark joy. Your feed should show whatever makes your heart smile. ☺️

💛 Awareness: Notice when you compare, because when you catch yourself, you’re taking over. You can pause, breathe, even close the app and come back to yourself.

💛 Step into real life: Nature, walks, friends, me-time… anything that pulls you away from the screen. My favourite for resetting? Hiking and fresh air.

It sounds cliché, but you really are what you consume. Your feed shapes your mind, and mine finally shapes mine in a way that inspires me instead of doubt. 🥰
